Assessment Activity : Populating a web page wireframe

I decided to use photos my dad has taken of his friends and his slot cars. I think it came up okay, it was put together in a bit of a rush but I'm happy with it.

LA 9: Making Backgrounds

I love how this site has done everything right, the image looks great and it flows into the page background nicely.
Also the colour scheme is easy and relaxing. The only nit pick I would have is that you can see the top right of the 'box' that holds the information, which still looks fine anyway.

This one didn't really seem to work well for me, the colours for the gradient where being difficult. I think the fact the background is different shades of grey didnt help.

Method 4 a bit ugly but it works.

My camera didn't have all the functions I needed so a little bit of editing was done in photoshop.

LA 12: Good And Bad Type

Bad Examples

Mossimo's logo is hard to read, at first the m looks more like a w, the other letters are just as bad.

This cheese sign seems appropriate, but the type can be a little confusing.

This type is hard to understand and because of that seems meaningless.

The word jazz has poor type use and doesn't even match the rest of the sign.

Most of the type on this sign isn't to bad, the letters that do stand out they do for all the wrong reasons.

Good Examples

The type is easy to read and feels fun, perfect for a balloon and party shop.

The x adds excitement to this logo.

The big w uses plain and simple text but it looks nice doing so.

Sport first uses good type and a good logo design.

Spotlight is clear and easy to read, plus the o is a spot!

Digital Imaging LA8 Web Image Formats

Second Attempt (jpg)

On my second version I moved most of the images around, giving it a better grid flow. I also enlarged the dirt photo and added a gradient behind the text to grab attention.

First Attempt (jpg)

With all three files they all produced quite a good image quality. The only significant difference was the sizes, with the png being over 2mb, the gif just over 1mb and the jpg (shown above) is only 250kb.

Design Module Assessment: Promote your Blog

Second Attempt

First Attempt

With the assessment I kind of did something a little different. I had the logo idea back from a previous assignment but found one on the web which ended up being the same. The whole idea was a simple logo design with whitespace to add emphasis on it. It portrays my blog as a design blog/company, the original was a bit bland so I added the splatter in a main focus area. I also added a few effects to the background. With the flow the splatter leads to the logo, which then ends up at the blog url.

Digital Imaging LA5 Adjusting Levels

Before

After

The original picture was a bit to bright so I adjusted the brightness and contrast up, and also added a little hue and saturation to add more colour.

Before

After

With the dark photo I chose I adjusted the brightness up quite high and lowered the contrast. I only added a tiny bit of saturation, althought the sun ended up being quite bright in this one I was happy with both of the outcomes.

Digital Imaging LA4 Cropping

I cropped out the bottom of this image and zoomed into the car to make it look bigger.

This one was also taken from inside a car so I just took out the door frame and the car on the left for more focuse on the house.

Cropped into the plane, with this one I had more ocean in it but felt it was a bit distracting from the plane.

I decided to crop myself out of this one, making it horizontal and emphasizing the warf instead of me.

LA 13 Poster Design

With this quote I experimented with a few ways of doing it, but in the end I was happy with the result. I emphasised the main words. With the word 'hardest' I used Impact, made it bold and put it in all capitals to give it a blocky kind of look. The word 'see' I decided to make smaller and thought it works well with the quote. With 'front' I made it bold and italic to stand out, also layering it in front of the next word. 'Eyes' I felt just needed to catch the eye so the type is in Trajan Pro and in all capitals. The rest of the text is just in Times New Roman.
